Artisans of Time is an alternative research and divulgation project, our company creates a bridge that connects the anthropological research realm with the tourism realm. Through the operation and guiding of cultural tours, talks and experiences for independent travelers we get funds to do our research on Mexico, San Miguel and on tourism´s anthropology.
The research we have done on anthropology of travel is the foundation of our training programs on sustainable tourism and heritage interpretation, another funding source for the project. Through the hiring of our travel services you help us to do research and create knowledge on Mexican cultures, to protect San Miguel heritage and to develop knowledge tools for creating capabilities on sustainable tourism. Become an artisan of time, co-create this project, travel with us, let us show you Mexico and San Miguel de Allende.
Artisans of Time is the idea and project of Alberto Aveleyra, Mexican anthropologist and citizen of the world. It’s a project that works in the interface of heritage, culture, travel and self-knowledge. It was founded in 2003 and started to operate in Mexico City in 2004. The seed-idea was to gather funds for our cultural research on ancient Mexico through providing high quality tours around Mexican heritage sites, forging a creative link between cultural research and heritage interpretation in the tourism system. Today, Artisans of Time headquarters are in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, where we work in different issues related to the culture, history, heritage and tourism of this amazing city.
Throughout the last 14 years, Artisans of Time has co-developed with many partners an anthropology of travel research and training program, providing consulting and training on different sustainable tourism and heritage interpretation topics for communities and professionals in Mexico and Latin America. Finally, as president of the Non-Governmental Organization, Friends of the Museum of San Miguel de Allende, founded in 1986, Alberto Aveleyra has been working the last 4 years in the defense and protection of San Miguel´s heritage.
